PM to sign investment boosting deal in Beijing
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing on Saturday with the intent of signing a memorandum of cooperation to boost Chinese investments in Greece.
Tsipras will sign the pact with the National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China during the May 14-15 forum, which will take place in the context of the One Belt One Road Initiative.
The pact will include, among others, agreements on energy, telecommunications, shipping and tourism. Having also wrapped up difficult talks last week with Greece’s creditors, the government believes the pact will send out a clear signal to the international investors that the Greek economy has finally turned a corner.
Apart from meetings with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, Tsipras will also meet on the forum’s sidelines with International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
