Orestiada area suffers severe hail damage
Some 7,400 acres of crops, mainly cotton and sunflowers, in the areas of Didymoteicho and Orestiada in northeastern Greece were wiped out by a severe hailstorm on Tuesday night, authorities said Thursday.
The deputy regional governor of Evros, Dimitris Petrovits, said the the crops were completely destroyed and the extent of the damage in monetary terms will be calculated over the next two weeks.
