Prosecutor seeks protection for brother of girl killed by father

Supreme Court prosecutor Xeni Dimitriou on Wednesday called on a special prosecutor for minors to ensure that the twin brother of the 6-year-old girl killed by her father, a 61-year-old retired police officer, and the children’s mother are given all the support they require.

The suspect was remanded in custody on Tuesday after defending himself before an investigating magistrate on charges of murder and desecrating the dead after he disposed of his daughter’s body in a dumpster in Aghia Varvara, western Athens.

The suspect, who reportedly has displayed suicidal tendencies and is taking prescribed medication, submitted a written statement to the magistrate on Tuesday claiming that his existing mental health problems had worsened recently.
