Man, 47, shot dead outside school northeast of Athens
Police have launched a murder investigation after a 47-year-old man was shot dead in Glyka Nera, northeast of Athens.
The incident occurred around 8.15 a.m. on Wednesday shortly after the victim dropped his child off at primary school. The 47-year-old was inside his car when two suspects approached him and fired at least eight shots before taking off.
A woman was injured after a bullet ricocheted off a nearby wall. She was transferred to Sismanogleio hospital, north of Athens. Doctors say her life is not in danger.
Police found an abandoned vehicle near the scene that was doused in gasoline and set on fire. The suspects are believed to have escaped on motorbikes.
The victim has in the past been accused of running a protection racket. An attempt on his life was carried out in 2003.
