Athens journalists blame gov’t for GD gate-crashers
The Athens Journalists’ Union, ESIEA, has lashed out at the government over the raid of its offices by Golden Dawn members on Monday, saying its actions had emboldened the extreme-right party.
The union cited the recent tour by Defense Minister Panos Kammenos to the islands of the eastern Aegean in the company of senior ranking Golden Dawn members – the implication being that the party had been legitimized in the process.
“[Golden Dawn] was handed a political opportunity,” it said, of the way the government handled the trips to Ro and Kastelorizo.
The union also referred to remarks on Sunday by former justice minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos, who said that Golden Dawn should be supported if it decides to uphold the rule of democratic law.
