One dead, five injured in fast-food outlet blast in central Athens
The body of a 42-year-old female employee was discovered in the basement of a fast-food outlet located on Victoria Square in central Athens, following an explosion on Thursday. Five people were injured in the blast which occurred at 9.25 a.m.
In a statement released on Thursday, the company said the blast was caused by a leak in the welding gas cylinders used by a technician in the basement area. The technician allegedly became aware of the leak and immediately urged those present to evacuate the premises.
Reports also said nearby stores and residences, as well as parked vehicles and motorcycles, sustained damage in the explosion.
