Only a fraction of rape victims take legal action, report shows
Around 5,000 rapes are reported in Greece every year but only around 150 of the victims take legal action, according to the Hellenic Society of Forensic Medicine.
A recent report indicates that 24 percent of women have reported physical abuse (18 percent by their partner) while 6 percent of women claim to have suffered sexual abuse (5 percent by their partner).
In the 28-member European Union an estimated 16.7 million women suffer physical or sexual abuse every year.
