Police probe group which claimed French Embassy hit
Police are investigating a guerrilla group calling itself the Organization for Revolutionary Self-Defense after it claimed responsibility for a hand grenade attack on the French Embassy last week and shots fired at the Mexican Embassy in August.
In a statement posted on an anarchist website late on Monday, the group said it attacked the French Embassy on November 10, which lightly injured a police guard, to protest against the French police’s crackdown on migrants at a large camp in Calais and in solidarity with Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, a Lebanese militant who is serving a 32-year jail term in France for the murder of two diplomats in the 1980s.
The group, which has also claimed an attack on PASOK’s Athens headquarters in 2014, said it aimed to “attack the state oligarchy, the dictatorship of capital and its armed guards.”
Despite some factual errors in the proclamation, police believe it is genuine and was composed in a hurry.
