Athens transport workers to strike over gov’t merger plans
Employees on the Athens metro, the ISAP electric railway and the tram are due to begin rolling work stoppages from Tuesday until November 25, causing major disruptions to services.
Workers are protesting government plans to bring together STASY, the fixed-track operator, and OSY, the public company responsible for running buses and trolley buses in Athens, under the umbrella of the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA).
Unionists said the outcome of the reform will be a “counterproductive, gigantic group.”
Workers will halt services on Tuesday from the beginning of their shift until 10 a.m., on Friday between noon and 4 p.m., on November 21 from the beginning of services until 10 a.m., on November 23 between noon and 4 p.m., and on November 25 from the beginning of their shift until 10 a.m.
