Criminal rings probe turns to jewelers, pawnbrokers
Police in Attica are investigating suspected ties between members of two linked criminal organizations that conducted dozens of burglaries at luxury homes with jewelers and pawnbrokers across the country.
Over 30 suspects arrested last week in the crackdown on the two gangs were expected to face prosecutors on Monday and Tuesday.
The criminal ring is believed to be led by leading figures of the Roma community. The suspects, who lived in luxury villas in Western Attica and Thessaloniki and drove expensive cars, would allegedly contact police during the robberies to report bogus incidents and divert attention.
