Ieronymos describes Filis as ‘problematic person’
Education Minister Nikos Filis appears to have become persona non grata in the eyes of the Church of Greece and Archbishop Ieronymos, who, in a interview on Skai TV late Tuesday, described him as a “problematic person” and “inconsistent in his actions and words.”
As such, he said “one cannot expect this relationship to bear any fruit.”
“[Filis] says one thing in the evening and another thing in the morning,” Ieronymos said, adding that the minister has not been sincere with the Church as far as his future plans regarding the place of the Church and religion within society.
The archbishop’s remarks came amid an ongoing conflict between the Church and the government over the role of religion in society and the way it is taught at school.
Ieronymos warned that the Church will not be content to just look on as the government attempts to push through changes, while at the same time he sung the praises of Panos Kammenos, the leader of the junior coalition partner, Independent Greeks, and Communist party chief Dimitris Koutsoumbas for their stance on the issue.
