Thessaloniki police officer tied to numerous offenses
A 53-year-old police officer on Wednesday faced a Thessaloniki prosecutor on a string of charges including forgery, embezzlement, the theft of electricity and water, violating gun laws and breaking customs regulations.
On Tuesday, the 53-year-old was stopped by fellow police officers for a routine check and found to be driving a car that had forged license plates and lacked insurance.
A subsequent search on his home turned up four pistols, a knife, pepper spray and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, as well as nine boxes of contraband cigarettes and an additional pair of license plates.
Further checks revealed that the 53-year-old had tampered with the water and electricity meters.
