Television technicians protest outside SYRIZA offices
Television technicians on Monday staged a demonstration outside the headquarters of leftist SYRIZA, protesting the outcome of a recent auction of TV licenses which will lead several channels to close.
The protesters spread a banner reading "Black has no shades of grey," a play on words referring to the "blackout" brought about by the closure of TV channels as police stood by.
The technicians demanded talks with the government, noting that State Minister Nikos Pappas had promised a meeting between union representatives, channel owners and government officials.
Pappas came under attack at the end of last week after submitting and then withdrawing draft legislation that would have forced TV channels which did not gain a license during the recent auction to close within five days of a ministerial decision on the matter.
