Woman arrested for conning 78-year-old
Police arrested a woman, aged 43, on Thursday for conning a 78-year-old woman in Pieria, northern Greece, out of 55,000 euros.
According to reports, the suspect, a Bulgarian national, phoned the woman 11 days ago impersonating her daughter, claiming that she had been arrested after causing a serious traffic accident.
She then put a male accomplice on the line, posing as a police officer. He asked the 78-year-old woman for 55,000 euros so that her daughter would be let off. They arranged a meeting in the town of Katerini, where she handed the Bulgarian woman the money.
The 78-year-old then reported the suspect to police, who launched an investigation.
