Judges oppose new salary cuts, hint at action
The five unions representing the country’s judges and prosecutors on Friday issued a joint statement, saying they will not accept additional cuts that would arise from the implementation of a new special salary structure for certain civil servants.
In their statement, the unions accused the government of “refusing to understand the nature and function of the judiciary” and condemned the authorities for not enforcing recent court decisions that deemed cuts to judges’ salaries since 2012 as unconstitutional.
The judges are said to be planning strike action if their concerns are not addressed.
