Police cracks cyber extortion ring
The police’s cyber crime unit has unraveled a six-member extortion ring that wrung money from people by threatening to post their personal data and other compromising material on the internet.
Authorities were tipped off after a complaint filed by a man who claimed the group was demanding 150,000 euros not to post his personal data they had hacked into.
Three people were arrested in Athens and appeared before a prosecutor on Wednesday, while police are searching for two others.
The ringleader was, reportedly, a prison inmate. All six suspects are foreign nationals.
