Firefighters battle forest fire on Mount Taygetus
More than 60 firemen operating 17 vehicles were trying to contain a forest blaze that broke out late Sunday in the Taygetus Mountain range in the Peloponnese.
The fire was on Monday burning in steep, inaccessible terrain, near the village of Pigadia, authorities said. They said seven water-dropping aircraft and one helicopter were dispatched to help the effort on the ground.
It was unclear what caused the fire.
