Land register in final stretchbut will take some time yet
The lengthy process of creating Greece’s first land register has entered its final phase, with land and real estate owners in four municipalities – Athens, Volos, Lamia and Livadia – expected to be summoned by authorities in the coming months.
The property owners will be called upon to check the accuracy of the details they submitted eight years ago, and to propose amendments if necessary. The process is expected to take some three-and-half years, according to sources.
The four municipalities are the only ones, in urban parts of Greece, that have yet to be inducted into Greece’s land register.
Greece is the only country in the EU without a cadastre.
The registration of all land and real estate in the country was meant to be completed by 2008 but has been repeatedly delayed by mix-ups, red tape and disputes.
