Man caught on Lesvos with 17 kilos of heroin
A Greek man faced a prosecutor on Lesvos on Tuesday on charges of drug smuggling after an inspection on the car he had crossed with from neighboring Turkey turned up nearly 17 kilograms of heroin.
According to a statement issued by the authorities, the drugs had been packaged in 33 plastic parcels and were found by a sniffer dog.
The packages were sent to a state laboratory on the island which tested the contents of the parcels and determined that they contained pure heroin.
Police and customs officials were seeking to determine whether the alleged smuggler had accomplices.
