Road accidents drop but fatalities rise in May

Traffic accidents in the month of May decreased by 5.3 percent compared to the same period last year, data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) showed on Friday.

However, the number of fatalities on the roads were up by 17.2 percent year-on-year, according to the same data.

There were 1,017 road accidents in May, down from 1,074 in May 2015, ELSTAT said, while 75 people died on Greece’s roads in May compared to 64 in May 2015.
