Tsipras on Paros for inauguration of new airport
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was expected on Paros on Friday to take part in the official inauguration ceremony of the Aegean island’s new airport.
Tsipras, who was scheduled to travel to Paros on a special Aegean Airlines/Olympic Air flight, is due back in Athens on Friday evening.
Opposition New Democracy has criticized the government of making a publicity stunt out of the work made by previous administrations.
“The prime minister is today simply cutting the ribbon,” conservative party spokesman Giorgos Koumoutsakos said ahead of Friday’s ceremony.
The new airport has a 2 kilometer landing and takeoff strip and a 750 square meter terminal. The first phase of its development was funded by the state and additional funding to complete the project's infrastructure was provided by Greek carriers Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air.
