Cyprus against backdrop of failed Turkish coup
Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias met with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides in Athens on Friday to discuss the outlook of the Cyprus peace talks against the backdrop of political volatility in Turkey after last week’s failed coup.
“These developments [in Turkey] and their repercussions are of direct interest to both Cyprus and Greece,” Kasoulides said, adding that both men focused on the security aspects of a solution to the division of Cyprus.
The failed coup in Turkey and the punitive purges of state apparatus has, according to some analysts, cast a shadow over the prospects of the Cyprus talks.
