Large sums of EU migration funding goes to NGOs not controlled by Greece, Mouzalas tells Parliament
Migration minister Yiannis Mouzalas told Parliament on Tuesday that large sums of European Union funding released for handling the migration crisis were not controlled by the Greek state.
“Unfortunately, money given to international organizations, to NGOs, we cannot control it,” Mouzalas said.
Out of the 210 million euros disbursed through EU emergency funding in 2016, 59.82 million euros were given to the Greek state, while 150.62 million euros went to international organizations, Mouzalas said. These organizations would be inspected by the EU at a later date, but could not be controlled by Greece, the minister added.
