Mitsotakis stresses need for two-state solution during visit to Israel
Opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday stressed the need for a two-state solution during his visit to Israel for talks with the country’s political leadership.
He made his remarks during a visit to the Palestinian territories, where he also met with the prime minister of the Palestinian Authority, Rami Hamdallah.
“I reiterated our country’s desire to play a more substantial and constructive role within the framework of an international effort,” Mitsotakis said, adding that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has for decades been at the heart of many issues afflicting the wider Middle East.
Earlier, he met Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivilin. He also visited the Yad Vashem Holocaust History Museum in Jerusalem, writing in the guestbook that he was “deeply moved by the greatest tragedy in the history of man, we vow to never forget the horror of this tragic period.”
During a meeting with Rivlin on Sunday, Mitsotakis voiced his satisfaction with the political rapprochement with Tel Aviv, which he named a “strategic partner” of Greece.
