Stoppages planned through Tuesday on rail service
Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) and Proastiakos suburban railway employees are stepping up their protest action against the privatization of railway operator Trainose with daily rolling work stoppages through Tuesday, July 12.
Italy’s state railway company Ferrovie dello Stato is the sole bidder to buy Trainose after the deadline for bid submissions passed on Wednesday.
Apart from expressing opposition to the government’s sell-off plans, the OSE and Proastiakos staff are also demanding the signing of a new collective labor contract.
In a statement on Friday, the union representing rail workers called on the government “to do the obvious, even at the eleventh hour” to protect workers’ rights.
