Greek PM, Chinese president eye joint prospects
Chinese President Xi Jinping described Greece as a “strategic partner” on Tuesday following talks in Beijing with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, who said Greek-Chinese ties were entering a new phase.
“We are sure that Piraeus will create new prospects for broadening Greek-Chinese cooperation in transport, infrastructure, telecoms and shipping,” the Chinese leader said, referring to the concession to Chinese logistics giant Cosco of a 67 percent stake in Piraeus Port Authority. Xi said he was also interested in cooperation in the tourism, culture and sports sectors.
Tsipras, for his part, elaborated on a series of Greek proposals for Chinese investments.
