2015 referendum decision a ‘monument of irresponsibility,’ ND says

Speaking on the one-year anniversary of Greece's bailout referendum called by the left-led government, a spokesman for the conservative opposition described the decision as a “monument of unreliability and irresponsibility” adding that it had taken a huge toll on Greek pensioners and salaried workers.

“The government was aware of everything. [Prime Minister Alexis] Tsipras was planning one thing and calling for another, and ended up doing something else,” Giorgos Koumoutsakos told a press briefing on Tuesday.

“When the people said 'no' [Tsipras] went on to accept the lenders' even tougher proposals. It was a crime because it cost tens of billions of euros. It was a willful crime. They were aware of the consequences. The evidence is devastating,” he said adding that the left-led administration had turned down a request by ND for a House committee to probe the government's handling of the economy last year.
