From Athens, German vice-chancellor says British EU exit must be swift
German Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel said on Thursday the process for Britain to leave the European Union must be swift, as a delay would not be beneficial either for the UK or for the bloc.
”There is no doubt, Europe won't fall apart because the United Kingdom is leaving,” Gabriel was quoted as saying in an official translated transcript of remarks after meeting Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
Britain's younger generation, which had favoured the country remaining in the EU, were 'wiser and smarter' than its leadership', he said, adding: “its a decision we must respect”.
