Constitutional expert critical of gov’t moves on TV permits

The government’s decision to strip the National Council for Radio and Television (ESR) of its jurisdiction over the issuing of TV permits and to restrict the maximum number of nation-wide licenses to four has been criticized by Nikos Alivizatos, professor of constitutional law at Athens University.

Speaking to Kathimerini on Thursday, Alivizatos said the selected procedure runs against the Greek Constitution.

However, he said, whether the ongoing tender will be halted in court will also depend on procedural issues.
