US serviceman hospitalized after joyride on Crete

An American crew member serving on the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier, docked on Crete, was hospitalized on Wednesday after stealing a parked taxi in the town of Hania and crashing it into a ditch.

The incident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. when the inebriated serviceman stepped out of a bar, stole the taxi and drove off, injuring its owner who tried to stop him.

Police found the taxi and the man in a ditch in the area of Aghias at 4.30 a.m.
