New Democracy to oppose development bill in House

New Democracy is going to vote against the development bill submitted to Parliament recently by the government, despite some high-ranking party members feeling that the conservatives should support the draft legislation.

Sources told Kathimerini that the decision to vote against the bill was taken during a meeting of the party’s coordinating body last Tuesday. The main reason put forward by New Democracy’s leadership for not supporting the draft law, which aims to provide incentives and financing for growth, is that it is too small in scope, envisaging an outlay of just 3.6 billion euros between now and 2022, which is expected to help create only 15,000 jobs.

However, some party officials, including Dora Bakoyannis, Olga Kefaloyianni and Niki Kerameos, are believed to have argued that the conservatives should vote for the bill, while highlighting its shortcomings.
