Metropolitan Cathedral to open on July 2
The long process of restoring the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral is nearing its end with the church expected to reopen its doors to the public on July 2, according to Culture Ministry officials. The final stage of the process involves the installation of external lighting fixtures, which is expected to be carried out next week.
The scaffolding and tarpaulins on its exterior, which over the years had almost become a defining feature of the capital’s most emblematic church, were finally removed in time for this year’s Greek Orthodox Easter.
