Woman arrested for scamming elderly citizens
A 42-year-old woman was arrested on Monday in connection with a scam to get money out of elderly citizens by telling them a relative had been involved in a road accident.
According to police, the suspect was charged with posing as an elderly man’s daughter and informing him over the phone that she had been involved in fatal crash which had caused the death of a minor. According to the victim, a man posing as a policeman also spoke to him on the phone and demanded a 20,000-euro cash payment for his daughter to avoid facing charges.
The victim initially agreed to deliver a portion of the payment, but subsequently informed authorities who eventually arrested the woman outside his home. The suspect was expected to face a prosecutor while her accomplices were being sought. Police believe the gang has scammed 13 senior citizens.
