Mitsotakis against slashing 13th and 14th salaries
New Democracy will not push for sackings in the public sector, conservative leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Monday, adding that he is against the slashing of the Christmas, Easter and holiday bonuses, known in Greece as the 13th and 14th salaries.
“I want to be clear. I will not tolerate further wage cuts. The 13th and 14th salaries are non-negotiable. [Reducing them] would not strengthen competitiveness,” Mitsotakis told Skai radio on Monday.
Mitsotakis, who as minister of administrative reform presided over 5,000 dismissals from state payroll in 2014, added that he did not want to see any more sackings in the Greek civil service.
“The problem with [Greece’s] public sector is not the size, but the poor distribution of human resources,” he said.
