Tsipras urges speeding up GD trial
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Friday urged speeding up the trial of 68 Golden Dawn officials, members and supporters, following a public appeal by Magda Fyssa, mother of slain rapper Pavlos Fyssas on Thursday.
One of the defendants, Giorgos Roupakias, has been charged with the fatal stabbing of Fyssas in September 2013.
Following Tsipras’s intervention, Magda Fyssa and other family members on Friday met with House Speaker Nikos Voutsis and Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos in Parliament.
Proceedings have been held up in the last few months due to an extended lawyer strike, while another pending issue was the trial’s transfer from Korydallos Prison to a more suitable location.
