Traders set for legal action against striking stevedores
As striking port workers walked off the job for a sixth day in a row on Tuesday, the head of the National Confederation of Commerce (ESEE), Vassilis Korkidis, indicated on Tuesday that Greek traders were considering taking legal action against the protracted protest.
The timing of the extended strike could not be worse, Korkidis said, referring to the biannual Posidonia shipping exhibition, which starts next Monday, and the beginning of the high season for tourists.
On Tuesday, port workers marched through central Athens to protest government plans to sell off the country’s two main ports in Piraeus and Thessaloniki. Fearing layoffs, employees have been holding 48-hour rolling strikes since last week.
