New Democracy MEP Giannakou in intensive care after heart attack
New Democracy MEP Marietta Giannakou continued receiving treatment in an intensive care unit in Athens on Monday after suffering a heart attack over the weekend.
Giannakou, a former education minister, was rushed to the hospital early on Saturday and underwent an operation. However, she suffers from chronic breathing problems, causing doctors concern about her condition.
The MEP, a respected figure in Greek politics, had one of her legs amputated in 2008 due to problems caused by diabetes.
