Mitsotakis slams Tsipras, sticks by election, growth calls
New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis repeated on Saturday his call for snap elections and launched another stinging attack on Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
“He is an opportunist that will do whatever he can to remain in power and cannot be trusted in Greece and abroad,” Mitsotakis told a meeting of New Democracy’s political committee.
Mitsotakis drew the audience’s attention to the sizable lead that the conservatives have established over SYRIZA in some opinion polls and lambasted the government for the delays in concluding the bailout review.
“Mr Tsipras handed over everything and got nothing in return,” he said. The conservative leader insisted that his plan for the economy, based around lower taxes, could lead Greece out if its bailout era.
He said that with the right mix of policies, Greece could grow by 4 percent of gross domestic product each year over the next five years and that this could create 120,000 jobs annually. SYRIZA responded by labeling the opposition leader a doomsayer.
