Korydallos appeals over timing of GD trial’s resumption
The Municipality of Korydallos, the union representing teachers in Piraeus and local parent-teacher groups on Tuesday made a last-ditch appeal to judicial authorities not to resume the trial of Golden Dawn politicians and supporters at a makeshift courtroom at the high-security Korydallos Prison until after local schoolchildren have finished sitting their university entrance examinations.
The trial is scheduled to begin on Wednesday following a five-month hiatus after the Athens Bar Association approved a special request for the proceedings to resume.
Parents, teachers and local authorities object to schoolchildren being obliged to sit their exams “in a heavily policed environment,” referring to the roadblocks and strong police presence that accompanied the trial of members of the neofascist party.
