Opposition slams media ban from Idomeni evacuation
Opposition New Democracy on Tuesday slammed a decision by the government to ban almost all journalists from recording the evacuation of thousands of refugees and migrants from a makeshift camp on the country’s northern border.
“A six-kilometer cut-off is being applied in Idomeni,” the spokesman for the conservative party, Giorgos Koumoutsakos said commenting on restrictions to all media staff save journalists from state-run ERT television and the ANA-MPA news agency.
“This is a censorship operation that harms the freedom of the press and exposes the country internationally,” Koumoutsakos said. “When there is rule of law, the government should have nothing to fear from free public information.”
