Doctor nabbed taking under-the-table payment for operation
An eye, nose and throat specialist at a state hospital in Thrace faced a prosecutor on Wednesday after police caught him in the act of receiving a “fakelaki,” or under-the-table payment, from the husband of a patient.
The doctor allegedly demanded 500 euros to bring forward an operation on the woman but her husband informed police, who instructed him to hand over the money in pre-marked bills.
The man gave the doctor the money on Tuesday just minutes before Internal Affairs officers burst into his office and seized the cash.
