Greek MPs to vote on new austerity measures on Sunday

Greece's government says its latest austerity measures bill will be submitted to Parliament by Wednesday at the latest, which would see lawmakers vote on the legislation by Sunday — before a meeting of eurozone finance ministers who will discuss whether to release more bailout funds for the debt-ridden country.

Government spokeswoman Olga Gerovassili said Tuesday that the bill with reforms and tax increases, pending the successful completion of a review by Greece's lenders of its progress on bailout reforms, will be voted on by the end of the week.

The new bill is expected to include a raft of tax hikes, including raising consumer tax from 23 percent to 24 percent, increasing taxes on fuel, hotel stays, alcohol and tobacco as well as liberalizing the sale of non-performing loans.
