Ministry worker arrested for taking bribe
An employee with the Finance Ministry’s General Secretariat of Public Revenue has been arrested on charges of accepting a bribe, police said Friday.
According to a police report, the civil servant was apprehended after receiving an envelope containing 3,000 euros from the accountant of a paint store that he had just inspected for tax evasion. The accountant was also detained.
The employee was reported to police by two colleagues who allegedly witnessed the suspects making a deal so that the inspector would submit a favorable report.
Authorities are looking for the owner of the business, who may also face charges. The two suspects faced an Athens prosecutor Friday.
