Unions announce strikes as House prepares to vote on social security bill
Greece’s public sector umbrella union ADEDY on Thursday called a 48-hour strike for Friday and Saturday, to protest the government’s social security reform plans, following an announcement that the legislation was expected to be debated in Parliament on Saturday before being put to the vote late on Sunday.
Also on Thursday, the Panhellenic Seamen’s Union called on its members to take part in a four day strike starting at 6 a.m. on Friday and ending at 6 a.m. next Tuesday.
More unions were expected to join the protest action following the announcement regarding Sunday’s House vote.
