Winter weather grips parts of northern, western Greece
As Greek holidaymakers started flocking back to cities following the Easter holiday break, temperatures in some parts of the country dropped to winter levels, bringing snow and strong showers, particularly at higher altitudes in the north and west.
Snow blanketed on Monday night parts of Epirus in northwestern Greece at an altitude of 1,400 meters and above, as downpours lashed the western coast of Preveza and the temperature in Metsovo dropped to 3 degrees Celsius.
The wet front that swept into Greece on Sunday night is expected to affect many parts of the country at least through Wednesday, pushing temperatures below seasonal averages.
In Athens, skies remained clear on Tuesday after a few brief showers on Monday, though rain is likely later in the day, particularly in the north.
