PASOK minister Nikos Athanassopoulos dies aged 93
Former PASOK minister Nikos Athanassopoulos died on Saturday at the age of 93, it was confirmed on Easter Monday.
Born in 1923 in Neohori, Arcadia, Athassopoulos studied law at Athens University and went on to reach the level of deputy prosecutor of the appeals court.
As prosecutor at the court of first instance, Athanassopoulos handled the case relating to the murder of resistance hero Grigoris Lambrakis in Thessaloniki in 1963.
He was first elected an MP in Thessaloniki on the ticket of socialist PASOK in 1977 and then in Athens in 1993. He served as alternate finance minister from 1985 to 1986.
He was married with two sons.
