Greek police seize thousands of illegal fireworks in runup to Easter

Police said they have confiscated more than 27,000 firecrackers and other pyrotechnics and arrested 10 people over their illegal possession in the last few days in the regions of Achaia, Ilia and Aitoloacarnania in the Peloponnese.

The illegal use of firecrackers during Easter celebrations is a common occurrence in Greece and police inspections are conducted ever year in a bid to stamp out the tradition due to safety concerns.
