Head of authority for public contracts resigns
The head of the independent authority overseeing state contracts resigned on Monday, citing political intervention in the agency’s work.
In a letter addressed to Economy Minister Giorgos Stathakis, Dimitris Raikos, who has headed the EAADISY agency since December 2013, said that “partisan and other influences and dependencies” continue to pose a “serious threat to the proper and smooth execution of any public official’s duties.”
He also suggested that “conflicting financial and political interests” are hampering the authority’s work, particularly in its “investigation of the legality of public contracts.”
