Greek teachers stage boisterous rally outside ministry
Teachers have called for a fresh rally in the center of the Greek capital on Tuesday at 7 p.m. following Friday’s rowdy protest outside the Education Ministry in the suburb of Maroussi, northern Athens.
Teachers are reacting to government proposals for a temporary hiring system for substitute teachers, instead demanding en masse recruitment of all substitutes.
On Friday, riot police had to keep protesters at bay after a group of demonstrators climbed over the gate into the ministry grounds while shouting slogans against ministry officials.
No arrests were reported.
