Private schools decry plan for exam committee
A fresh row broke out between private schools and Education Minister Nikos Filis Thursday just days after he abandoned plans to limit the institutions’ activities.
Reacting to reports that Filis intends to create committees of state school teachers to set the questions and mark the papers for upcoming exams at private schools, the latter’s association accused the minister of threatening their independence.
The association said the creation of the committees just for private schools would undermine teachers at these institutions and feed “animosity” toward the schools. It also pointed out that bringing in this measure about three weeks before exams start would be unsettling for pupils as well.
